I have heard the phrase "stop and smell the roses" many times throughout my life. But in the midst of everyday life, it's sometimes difficult to tell the roses from the dandelions.
This is not true when I am with my youngest grandson. Sometimes the littlest thing can turn a mundane moment into something memorable.
This past weekend, I was just hanging out at his house. He was in the high chair and dad was feeding him. Other family members were bustling around, moving from one activity to another as the day progressed.
I walked over to the tissue box, pulled a tissue out, and lifted it to my nose to blow... When I looked up at my grandson, he was laughing at me. What was so funny? I'm sure he must have seen someone blowing their nose before, but somehow this time it made him laugh.
I'll remember that nose-blowing moment, and his laugh, for the rest of my life. It makes me smile every time I think about it. I think I've discovered one of the "roses" in my life. God help me to always appreciate it.
